SAMPLE LANGUAGE FOR TESTAMENTARY GIFTS TO
THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL1


A provision in your will or revocable living trust providing for a legacy to The George Washington University Law School should reflect your own unique circumstances and charitable objectives. We hope these sample provisions—whether used individually or in combination—be helpful to you and your attorney.

 

UNRESTRICTED GENERAL LEGACY: “I give to The George Washington University Law School, of Washington, D.C., an amount equal to __________ percent (________%) of my adjusted gross estate as finally determined for federal estate-tax purposes.”

 

GENERAL LEGACY TO THE AREA OF GREATEST NEED: “I give to The George Washington University Law School, of Washington, D.C., an amount equal to __________ percent (______%) of my adjusted gross estate as finally determined for federal estate-tax purposes. This amount shall benefit the area(s) of greatest need and utility as determined by the dean of the Law School at the time it is given.”

 

AMOUNT OF GIFT DEPENDENT ON SIZE OF THE ESTATE: “I give to The George Washington University Law School, of Washington, D.C., an amount equal to ___________ percent (________%) of my adjusted gross estate as finally determined for federal estate-tax purposes, or __________ dollars ($___________), whichever is the larger.”

 

GIFT FOR A SPECIFIC PURPOSE2: “I give to The George Washington University Law School, of Washington, D.C., an amount equal to ___________ percent (________%) of my adjusted gross estate as finally determined for federal estate-tax purposes. This amount shall be for the benefit of [specific Law School program] and is to be administered under the terms of a Memorandum of Understanding on file with the University.”

 

GIFT OF RESIDUARY ESTATE: “I give the residue of the property owned by me at the time of my death, real and personal and wherever situate, to The George Washington University Law School, of Washington, D.C.”
