Alumnus’s Latest Gift Supports Experiential Learning While Helping Local Community
![]() |
Jeffrey Kohn, JD ’84, has made transformative contributions to GW Law, reflecting his appreciation for the education and opportunities he received. His recent $1.5 million gift established the Jeff and Martha Kohn Visiting or Associate Professorship for the Small Business and Community Economic Development Clinic.
An additional $1 million gift from Kohn’s estate will transform that faculty position into an endowed director for the clinic. This clinic, one of the nation’s first transactional clinics, provides students with hands-on experience supporting underserved clients and local businesses.
Kohn previously funded scholarships and created the Jeffrey and Martha Kohn Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research, currently held by Dean Laurie Kohn. He also serves on the GW Law Dean’s Advisory Council and Business and Finance Council as well as teaching in our GW Law in New York program along with teaching Employment and Labor Law on our DC campus.
“GW was very good to me when I was in law school. I always thought that if I could give back, I would,” Kohn said. “The impact of Jeff and Martha Kohn’s contributions to GW Law and the legal profession cannot be overstated,” GW Law Dean Dayna Bowen Matthew said. “This gift will amplify the clinic’s impact and expand GW Law’s role as a good neighbor in the Washington, DC, community.”
Kohn’s generosity and leadership continue to shape the future of legal education at GW. His investments ensure that students gain practical skills while serving their communities. Through his teaching, philanthropy, and advisory roles, Kohn exemplifies the values of service, innovation, and lifelong engagement that define GW Law’s alumni community.
